Archaeology Research Grants

Begole Archaeology Research Grant

The Begole Archaeological Research Grant program was established by pioneering Anza-Borrego State Park archaeologist Bob Begole. The grants support scientific archaeological research in the Colorado Desert District of California State Parks and other areas of the California and Baja California desert regions with direct connections to or scientific applications to Colorado Desert Parks.

  • Research topics may be in any area as long as they are archaeological in scope and/or focus.
  • Two grants up to $5000 each are awarded annually.
  • Priority may be given to original archaeology research dealing with the earliest periods of prehistory.
  • Archaeology grant pplicants may be registered undergraduate or graduate students, titled researchers at academic institutions, staff of federal and state agencies, or independent scholars.

Proposals are usually submitted annually by the end of May. The Begole Archaeology Research Grants are awarded in July.
